Help inspire the next generation of environmental leaders by bringing students to the Refuge to experience the Everglades first-hand.
Every year Palm Beach County schools schedule field trips to the Refuge to teach students the importance of the Everglades, but every year a number of those trips must be cancelled due to insufficient funding. The cost per bus ranges from $200 - $500 depending on the size of the bus, with the cost per student $5 to $7.
The Friends are raising funds to make these trips possible for more school kids.
$20 = 3 students
$200 = 1 bus of 30 students
Your donation to this fund assures that your environmental values and vision are shared, undimmed, with our children and grandchildren.
Promote a better understanding and appreciation of the Refuge and the entire Everglades ecosystem through your support of the Friends.
Our ongoing annual commitments include co-sponsoring Everglades Day, contributing to the Exhibit Maintenance Fund, and spreading the word about the Refuge through our website, e-mail newsletter, Gator Tales newsletter and calendar.
Special projects for this past year include the planting of hundreds of cypress seedlings to restore more of the original cypress swamp. The Friends have also been sponsoring an intern to help with visiting school groups and to help the biologists tackle problems like the spread of invasive exotic plants.
Your donation to the Operating Fund supports these projects and more.
If you prefer to contribute by check, please make it payable to Friends of the Loxahatchee Refuge. For field trip contributions, or for contributions in honor or in memory of a special person, please make a note on the check or send separate instructions. Mail to:
