Laura Brandt has been a Wildlife Biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service based in South Florida since 1999 where she was the Senior Wildlife Biologist at Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Her current position is a multi-agency (USGS and FWS) position within the Science Applications/Migratory Birds program of Fish and Wildlife Service. 

She is responsible for working with scientists and managers to facilitate the acquisition of ecological information for integration into decision-making processes. She began working on alligators and crocodiles in 1982 while at The Pennsylvania State University where she received a BS in biology with a minor in marine science. She holds a master’s degree is in biological sciences from Florida International University and a doctorate degree with the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, University of Florida.
